The Black Friar (Damian Seeker #2) by S. G. MacLean

Captain Damian Seeker, feared member of Oliver Cromwell's guard, is summoned to a murder scene. A stonemason has uncovered a body dressed in the robes of a Dominican friar, bricked up in a wall in the crumbling Blackfriars monastery.

Seeker recognises the dead man. Why did he meet such a hideous end, and what is his connection to the children who have started disappearing from around the city?

Meanwhile, Cromwell's regime is under threat from all sides. If Seeker is to uncover the truth behind the Black Friar's death, he must navigate these shifting factions, all the while quelling religious fanatics, dissenters and Royalist plotters in the seething city beyond Whitehall.
