Death March by John Slater (Ray Slattery)

While the U.S. Forces consolidated their strength after the surprise attack on Pearl Harbour and the fall of the Philippines, the confident Japanese celebrated brief victory with an orgy of cruelty.   They deserved to be called animals . . . animals like Captain Onigara who tortured an American girl to learn the secret of vital mineral deposits . . . and Sergeant Shugabishi, who drove starved, sick prisoners of war on a death march through the jungle.  Yet when a volunteer was needed to join that march of death Mike Renway did not hesitate.
